The House that God Built

I’m often astonished by the countless amount of stunning churches strewn throughout Asia. Chijmes Chapel in Bras Basah is no exception. Once a Catholic convent school, this more than 130-year-old building has now become a trendy hot spot for affluent expats and home to a slew of upscale shops and restaurants.

Walking past this breathtaking church and others, I sometimes find myself reminiscing of the days when I would attend church and Sunday school every week. Despite being raised Catholic, I admit I haven’t been to church in quite some years and I do feel a bit guilty, especially after passing by the innumerable houses of God.

However, I still practice in my own way and, every now and then, I enjoy just sitting back and appreciating these architectural marvels for their aesthetic beauty.
