For the past several years, my grandfather has been battling cancer. After beating it on several occasions, he was recently told that the cancer had relapsed and spread throughout his body, which meant he would have to start up chemotherapy once again. Despite his deteriorating health condition, he remains in good spirits and embraces his fate.
I wrote him the following letter in hopes that he would know how truly special he is to me and my family.
I recently heard about your health condition and wanted you to know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers. You’re a fighter – always have been, always will be. You’ve overcome so much in life already and will continue to conquer any obstacle in your path.
You’re the heart and soul of the Baffert family. Everyone looks up to you for your courage and resilience in the face of adversity – myself included.
I know when my (future) children come of age, I will regale them with stories of their great grandfather – a wise, honest, and courageous man who was loved by all that were fortunate enough to meet him.
So stay strong, stay positive, for you shall live a very long, full life with even more joyful moments to come.
Your grandson Joe
